NEW BUFFALO – The Brandywine girls’ basketball team scored a season-high 72 points en route to its 15th win of the season without a loss.

The Bobcats defeated host New Buffalo 72-48 in a non-conference contest Saturday afternoon.

After grabbing a 15-10 first quarter lead, Brandywine opened up a 21-point halftime cushion (38-17). The Bobcats scored 23 points in the second quarter to break the contest open.

Brandywine didn’t cool off much in the second half, scoring another 34 points in the final 16 minutes of play.

Defensively, the Bobcats gave up 30 points, which did not please coach Josh Hood.

“Offensively it was nice to see us put up some points, but I’m not pleased giving up 47 points,” he said.

Carlie Newman scored a game-high 25 points to lead Brandywine, which also got 18 points from Lauren Leonard and 12 points from Mackenzie Shelton.

Kelsey Prestly and Morgan Smallwood both chipped in with seven points.

Korbi Forker had 20 points to pace the Bisons.

Brandywine (15-0) heads to Kalamazoo Central tonight for a make up game against the Class A Maroon Giants.
