OTSEGO – Seven was the magic number for both Buchanan and Edwardsburg Saturday afternoon at the Division 3 Individual Wrestling Tournament at Otsego High School.

The Bucks and the Eddies each advanced seven wrestlers next weekend’s regional tournament.

Both teams also had one individual champion.

Buchanan’s Gage Hutchison pinned Elijah Mack of Hopkins in 3:14 of the 160-pound championships.

Edwardsburg’s Devin Bywaters pinned teammate Stephen Coble in 1:22 of the 189-pound final.

Also advancing for the Bucks were Jeff Mucha and Adam Byrdak, who were both second at 130- and 152-pounds respectively; along with Taylor Glavin, TJ Miller, Mack Green and Dustan Craig.

Green, who came into the tournament undefeated, finished third at 215-pounds, while Glavin, Miller and Craig were all fourth.

The Eddies other placers were Michael Kempton and Terry Brasfield, both second at 112- and 140-pounds respectively; as well as Cameron Warren (125), Justin Steinke (160) and Josh Williams (285).

Warren, Steinke and Williams were all third.

Dowagiac advanced just two wrestlers, both of whom finished fourth.

Ryan Smit advanced at 119-pounds and Ben Luth at 130.

The wrestlers will head to Hamilton High School this coming Saturday for regional competition.
