Norma J. Weaver, 83, of Colony Court in Niles died at 3:47 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2010 at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles, unexpectedly but of natural causes.

Norma was born on March 29, 1926 in Niles to Cornelius and Florence (Vandenberg) Nichols. She graduated from Niles High School and lived in Niles all of her life. Norma attended Ferris State College, earning her license in nursing home administration. She had been employed at the former Dor-A-Lynn (now Riveridge Manor), Niles, the former Heritage Home in Buchanan and retired from Cass County Medical Care Facility. She was also previously employed for 20 years at Michigan Bell.

Norma was a member of the former Westminster Presbyterian Church in Niles, where she served on the session board. She was also formerly a member of Business and Professional Women, was a driver for the Niles Senior Center and enjoyed readying mysteries, crossword puzzles and working on her computer.

In May 1944 in Niles she married Robert G. Weaver Sr., who preceded her in death in 1974.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (and Roger) Tharp of Niles; grandson, Roger (and Melissa) Tharp II of Niles; great-grandsons, Michael and Travis Tharp; and several nieces and nephews, including Dennis (and Patricia) Nicholas and Gail (and Bill) Hall, who helped provide her care.

Norma was also preceded in death by her son, Robert G. Weaver Jr., who died in 1955 and brother, Neal Nichols, who died in 2007.

Funeral services for Norma J. Weaver will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles,with Pastor Barbara Wirt of South Bend officiating.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
