Suspect drawingA composite drawing of a person of interest in the double homicide of Carolyn and John Tarwacki has been developed after several witnesses came forward.

These witnesses observed a person of interest while driving on Yankee Road during the early morning hours of Friday, Feb. 5.

The person of interest is described as a white male, 20 to 30 years old with brown hair and a medium build.

The suspect in this crime was on foot on Yankee Street east of Carberry Road sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Feb. 5.

A mobile billboard was placed at this location reminding drivers that police are still seeking witness information. The billboard is designed to reach anyone not receiving media reports by radio, television or newspaper.

Citizens with information regarding these homicides or can identify the composite photo are being asked to call the Niles Post at (269) 683-4411.

The murders
Police can confirm that there was no sign of forced entry into the house and said reports that the Tarwackis’ dog, a 200-pound great mastiff, had been found in the bathroom when authorities arrived to the scene, could not be verified as accurate.

The couple was blatantly targeted, officials have said, and believe their killer is still in the community.

The person responsible could very well flee, he continued, but being someone known by the couple, their absence would draw the attention of family, friends and police.

The process in finding out who was responsible could take time and the community’s patience and cooperation is needed, authorities have said.
