Niles man injured in Howard Township crash

Published 10:38am Thursday, February 11, 2010

A Niles man was injured in a two-car accident in Howard Township Wednesday.

Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr. reports that deputies from Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a personal injury traffic crash at 9:45a.m.  The crash occurred on M-60, east of Pine Lake Street in Cass County’s Howard Township. The crash occurred as the vehicle driven by Stephen Wuthnow, 20, of Niles was travailing westbound on M-60.

Michael Osban, 38, of Buchanan was stopped westbound alongside M-60 when Wuthnow lost control of his vehicle and struck the back of Osban’s tanker truck.  Wuthnow was transported to South Bend Memorial for his injuries.

Seatbelts were worn and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

Howard Township Fire Department and Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.

    “travailing”??

  • Stephani Wuthnow

A note from Stephen’s family: Happy to report that, though his car was completely smashed on the driver’s side, Stephen came out of the accident with just a fractured cheekbone, some bruises and some minor lacerations. He spent the night in Memorial Hospital last night, due to being unconscious for some time after the accident, but he has been released and is recovering at home. We thank God for his grace.

Thanks to all the teams of firefighters, ambulance personnel, emergency room doctors and nurses, etc, who gave him such good care!
