Dowagiac was no match for undefeated No. 5 ranked Gull Lake Friday night in a Wolverine Conference girls’ basketball game.

The Chieftains were able to keep it close early as Blue Devil standouts Megan Grimes and Claire Ranly were saddled with two early fouls and were sent to the bench.

Gull Lake’s 17-10 first quarter advantage dwindled to 20-16 midway through the second period before Grimes and Ranly returned to ignite the Blue Devils’ offense.

Gull Lake (14-0, 12-0 Wolverine) used a 13-0 run to end the first half and take a comfortable 33-16 advantage to the locker room at halftime.

Ranley scored all seven of her points in the second quarter to spark the Blue Devils.
It was all Gull Lake from there.

The Blue Devils outscored Dowagiac 34-19 in the second half to earn the lopsided victory.
Grimes and Abby Ahlert both scored 12 points for Gull Lake, while Lindsey Hiemstra added 10.

Torie Lowe led Dowagiac with 11 points and Kaisha Martin added eight.

Marcie Ennesser, Katie Lorenz and Breneesha Jones each finished with four points.

Dowagiac will travel to Plainwell Tuesday. The Trojans are currently 8-4 in the conference and 9-5 on the year.
