On Thursday, Feb. 4, at 2:10 p.m., Deputy Steve Keene, who was in the area, noticed the tail of an airplane in an upward angle at the east end of the Dowagiac Municipal Airport runway, near Middle Crossing Road.

When officers checked the plane they found that the pilot was not injured.

Public Safety Director Tom Atkinson Friday identified the pilot as Floyd Argue of Mishawaka, Ind.

He was flying a small experimental plane.
While taxiing down the runway, a north wind resulted in a loss of control and he ran off the runway, nosing into the snow-covered ground.

The only damage to the aircraft was the propeller.

Information will be forwarded to FAA investigators, which is routine in aircraft accidents.
