Lloyd Edward Dussel, 88 / Nov. 13, 1921 – Jan. 27, 2010

Lloyd Edward Dussel, 88, of Cassopolis went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010 after an extended illness. He was at home surrounded by family and friends.

He was born Nov. 13, 1921 in Porter Township, Cass County to Clarence and DeVere (O’Dell) Dussel. He was a lifetime Cass County resident.

Lloyd was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was a longtime member of the Penn Friends Community Church in Cassopolis. He loved to spend winters in Florida fishing in Lake Okeechobee. He was also an avid hunter.

Lloyd married the former Mary Jane Westgate on Feb. 10, 1942 in Cassopolis, and they were married for 67 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; children, William (Susan) Dussel, David L. (Nancy) Dussel and Peggy A. Pompey, all of Cassopolis; a son-in-law, Delbert (Rita) Rice of Cassopolis; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, all whom he dearly loved; two sisters, Evelyn Gay and Margaret Knepple, both of Cassopolis; a brother-in-law, Walter (Marion) Westgate of Three Rivers; a sister-in-law, Shirley Winchester of Cassopolis; an uncle, Bill O’Dell of Edwardsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Rice, who died Aug. 17, 2004.

A funeral service was held Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Penn Friends Community Church with his pastor, the Rev. Bill Bruneau, officiating.

Internment was at Prairie Grove Cemetery in Penn Township, Cass County. The family received friends Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the church.
