Baysia Cox earns Player of the Week

Holy Cross College freshman center Baysia Cox earns the school’s first-ever CCAC Player of the Week honor after averaging 26.5 points per game in two games last week.

She is the CCAC Women’s Basketball Division I Player of the Week for the week ending January 31.

Holy Cross opened up the week with an 83-71 win over Indiana University – Northwest. She contributed a game-high 22 points, nine rebounds and four steals and shot 7-of-18 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw line.

Despite losing to conference leader University of St. Francis 86-67, Cox, of Niles, was outstanding and scored a school record 31 points for Holy Cross. She made 12-of-18 shots from the floor and made 7-of-9 free throws. She also had eight rebounds, one block and one steal.

In addition to her 26.5 points per game average, Cox averaged 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals. She made 52.8 percent of her shots (19-36) and shot 83.3 percent from the free throw line.

Cox ranks seventh in the league with both her 13.0 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game average. She has a 53.4 field goal percentage which ranks fourth.

Holy Cross is 5-20 overall and is still looking for the first-ever CCAC victory.
