STEVENSVILLE – With nine wrestlers in the finals and six individual champions, No. 2 ranked Lakeshore had little trouble defending its Southwest Michigan Invitational title on Saturday.

The Lancers scored 295 points to easily outdistance runner-up Buchanan, which finished with 185 points.

Niles was third with 147 points, while Coloma and St. Joseph finished fourth and fifth respectively. Dowagiac was sixth with 75 points and Cassopolis finished 12th.

The Bucks got four wrestlers to the finals and two of them earned championships.

Mack Green improved to 41-0 on the season after defeating Kyle Spear of Lakeshore 5-4 in in the 215-pound finals.

Green set a new school record for consecutive victories in the process.

Gage Hutchison was the other champion for Buchanan as he captured the 160-pound title with an 8-2 victory over Lakeshore’s Austin Bedell.

Jeff Mucha (130) and Adam Byrdak (145) both finished second.

Niles had a trio of runners-up.

Dakota Wright was defeated by Lakeshore’s Tyler Daniels at 112, 10-2; Gage Pearison was defeated by Tyler Frese of Lakeshore 7-5 in overtime at 119; and Colin Burandt lost to Lakeshore’s Travis Dragomer 6-3 at 125-pounds.

Dowagiac had just one wrestler reach the finals as Sinjin Ownby was defeated by Paw Paw’s B.J. Armbrust 7-3.

Dowagiac also got a third place from Steven Baylock, a fourth place from Kasey Proshwitz and a fifth place from Daniel Crandall.
