ALLEGAN – Jason Turner poured in 18 points, including six 3-pointers as the Dowagiac boys’ varsity basketball team defeated host Allegan 76-59 in Wolverine Conference action Friday night.

Dowagiac (4-7, 4-6 Wolverine) grabbed a 25-7 first quarter lead on the Tigers and never looked back.

The Chieftains led 47-17 at the intermission and 62-38 heading to the final frame.

Dowagiac used its pressing defense to create turnovers and easy scoring opportunities.

It was a good thing the Chieftains built up a 30-point halftime cushion because they were outscored in the second half by the Tigers 42-29.

Turner led a balanced Dowagiac scoring attach, which also had Cody Cox with 14 points and Tremail Butcher with 10. Freshman Dontel Highsmith had nine points and eight assists for the Chieftains.

Allegan’s Caleb Byers led all scorers with 25 points.

The Chieftains will take Tuesday night off before returning home to face Wolverine Conference leader Gull Lake on Friday night.
