Prescott’s 36 points not enough for Bobcats to get past Bison

Despite 36 points, including 19 in the fourth quarter, from Lance Prescott, the Brandywine boys’ basketball team was unable to defeat visiting New Buffalo Monday night.

The Bison outscored Brandywine 22-21 in the final eight minutes to hold on for a 66-58 non-conference victory.

Prescott hit 14 shots from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers and was 6-of-9 from the free throw line.

The loss dropped the Bobcats to 4-7 on the season, while New Buffalo improves to 4-6.

It was a tight contest throughout as the Bison grabbed a 13-10 advantage after one period of play and extended its lead to four points (26-22) at halftime.

The Bison were able to open up some breathing room heading into the final quarter as they outscored the Bobcats 18-15 in the third quarter to take a 44-37 advantage.

Prescott tried to single-handedly lead Brandywine back, scoring all but two of the team’s 21 points in the fourth quarter.

Jesse McCombs had the other two points on a pair of free throws.

New Buffalo countered with Curtis Brewster and Tyler Heninger, who combined for 16 of the Bison’s 22 points in the final stanza.

Brewster scored all nine of his points in the final eight minutes, while Heninger scored seven of his nine points in the fourth.

New Buffalo salted the game away at the free throw line by hitting on 10-of-17 attempts.
The Bison finished the night 11-of-18 from the free throw line.

The Bobcats, who were outscored New Buffalo from the field by one, was 10-of-17 from the charity stripe.

Besides Prescott’s total, Brandywine also got five points each from Dustin Sater and Dustin Bell.

McCombs and Austin Searles both netted four points.

Blane Zavesky led the Bison with 13 points.

Tom Selby added 11 points.

The Bobcats return to action on Friday night when they host Cassopolis in a Lakeland Conference contest.
