Niles girls draw Class A defending champions

The Niles girls’ basketball team drew the defending Class A state champions to open up district play at Portage Northern High School in March.

The Vikings will take on Benton Harbor in the second game of a tripleheader on Monday, March 1.

Mattawan and Kalamazoo Loy Norrix will play at 4:30 p.m., while Portage Northern and Kalamazoo Central will wrap up the evening at 8:30.

The Niles-Benton Harbor winner will face the winner of the Portage Northern-Kalamazoo Central contest in the semifinals on March 3 at 6 p.m.

Portage Central, which received an opening round bye, will take on the winner of the Mattawan-Loy Norrix game on March 3 at 8 p.m.

The finals are slated for Friday, March 5 at 7 p.m.

Boys’ basketball
Niles will open up Class A district competition on Monday, March 8 against host Portage Central at 4:30 p.m.

The second game of the tripleheader will pit Kalamazoo Central against Benton Harbor at 6:30 p.m., while the evening will wrap up with Kalamazoo Loy Norrix facing Mattawan at 8:30.

The semifinals will be held on Wednesday, March 10 with Portage Northern facing the Niles-Portage Central winner at 6 p.m.

The winners of the Kalamazoo Central-Benton Harbor game and the Loy Norrix-Mattawan contest will play at 8 p.m.

The finals are scheduled for Friday, March 12 at 7 p.m.
