Chieftains falls in overtime to Comstock

COMSTOCK – Host Comstock outscored Dowagiac 12-8 in overtime to score a 67-63 Wolverine Conference victory Tuesday night.

The Chieftains (3-7, 3-6 Wolverine) outscored the Colts 18-9 in the final eight minutes of regulation to force the overtime.

Freshman Dontel Highsmith’s 3-pointer sent the game into the extra session.

But Dowagiac couldn’t keep pace in the overtime and ended up with its fourth consecutive loss.

The Chieftains led 16-9 early in the contest and 32-28 at halftime.

A big third quarter for the Colts allowed Comstock to take a nine-point lead into the final stanza.

Comstock outscored Dowagiac 18-5 in the pivotal third quarter.

Ryan Vrooman led the Colts with 16 points, including a 3-point play in overtime.

Stacey Martin added 14 points, while Allie Buchanan and Evan Gardner chipped in with 13 and 12 points respectively.

Highsmith led all scorers with 21 points. Darius Wilson added 16 points and Troy Butcher seven.
