Charles Edward “Chuck” Porch Jr., 56, of Ruth Layne, Niles died at 11:07 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles, following a brief illness.

He was born Aug. 20, 1953 in Niles to Charles Edward and Esther Lorraine (Parker) Porch, Sr. He graduated from Oak Park-River Forest High School in Oak Park, Ill. and later from Triton Junior College in Chicago, Ill. He returned to Niles in 1993 from Illinois. He retired as manager from the Inn of Niles.

Chuck was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout as a youth. He became a Boy Scout leader and a swim team coach in Illinois.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 449, Buchanan, where he held various committee chairs and officer chairs for 12 of his 13 years as a member. He was District 109 president and was a Michigan Rookie Moose of the Year. He was Moose Legion 106 president and a member of the Higher Degree as a Fellow.

Charles Porch is survived by his mother, Esther Porch of Niles; sisters, Susan (and Stephen) Short of McHenry, Ill. and Linda (and Timothy) Casey Yorkville, Ill.; nephews, Brian and Jordan Casey; niece, Briana Casey; and aunt, Eleanor Parker of Niles.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Porch, Sr., and his grandparents, Dennis and Faye Parker and Elmer and Mattie Porch.
Services for Charles Edward Porch, Jr. will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles, with the Rev. Nelson E. Lumm of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Committal will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where Moose Rites will be held at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Charles may be made to the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 449, 101 South Redbud Trail, Buchanan, MI 49107.
