Dowagiac wrestlers finish third at Quincy

QUINCY – The Dowagiac wrestling team is starting to put the pieces together as it begins to head toward the end of the season.
The Chieftains traveled to Quincy on Saturday and finished third in the Shawn Cockrell Memorial Tournament.
Addison won the team title with 242.5 points, while Vicksburg was second with 120.5 and Dowagiac third with 117.
Coloma finished fourth with 110 points, Lapeer East fifth with 98 points, while Brandywine was seventh with 89 points.
The Chieftains had one individual champion, three runners-up, a third-place finisher and a fourth-place finisher.
Dowagiac’s Ben Luth was not only a champion at 130-pounds, he was also named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler for the weight classes 140 and under.
Coloma’s John Tanner took the title for 140-pounds and up.
Finishing second for the Chieftains were Jacob Worthington at 103-pounds, Andrew Roden at 119-pounds and Sinjin Ownby at 285-pounds.
Taking third was Ryan Smith at 119, while Steven Baylock was fourth at 215.
