Joseph Marion Kiggins, 87, of Niles died at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010 at Silverbrook Manor in Niles of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 3, 1922 in Dowagiac to George and Cora (Embowden) Kiggins. He was a lifetime area resident.

On June 8, 1946 in South Bend he married Elizabeth “Kitty” Kiggins, who survives.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; former member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Niles; member of Clay United Methodist Church in South Bend; and member of American Legion Post 26. He was a tool and die draftsman.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Billy Kiggins and George Kiggins; sister, Winifred Juhasz.

He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Anderson of South Bend and Michele “Shelly” (Larry) Maynard of Niles; grandchildren, Lorena Maynard and Aaron Irvin; step-grandson, Michael (Rhonda) Maynard; brother, Robert (Sallie) Kiggins of Tuscon, Ariz.; great-grandchild, Alden Maynard.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2010 at Hoven Funeral Home in Buchanan with the Rev. Hert Buwalda of Clay United Methodist Church in South Bend officiating.

Burial will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at a later date. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2010 at the funeral home.
