The Dowagiac Middle School wrestling team started its regular season matches Tuesday night as it hosted Eau Claire, Coloma, Berrien Springs and Decatur.

The Chieftains won 19 of the 32 matches they wrestled in.

Winning two matches on the night were Rey Vega, Tyler Wessendorf, Jason Weber and Tristan Howard.

Winning one match on the evening were Caleb Sands, Darek Mills, Caleb Zimmerman, Brody Froehlich, Dontae Murphy, Trey Morgan, Ken Creameans, Bryce Younger, David Morgan Jr., Chance Eberly and Austin Francois.

“The coaches feel they are improving each match and need to continue working hard,” Dowagiac coach Andy Crawley said.

The Chieftains return to action on Thursday when they travel to St. Joe Upton.
