Brandywine wins Chieftain Invitational wrestling tourney

With eight individual champions, Brandywine captured the Dowagiac Middle School’s Chieftain Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats scored 67 points, while St. Joseph was second with 59, Dowagiac third with 55 and Niles fourth with 44. Berrien Springs rounded out the top five with 31 points.

Brandywine’s champions were Victory Morenchel (95A), Paul Lochmondy (100B), Brandon Earls (110B), Kyle Duncan (110C), Brandon Shriver (115B), Marty Ward (120A), Charlie Rodriguez (167A) and Joe Monica (167B).

Dowagiac finished with five champions, while Niles grabbed five championships.
The Chieftains’ champs were Rey Vaga (90A), Bryce Younger (95B), Jason Weber (120B), Ken Creameans (185B) and Andrew Lyle (Heavyweight A).

Also placing for the Chieftains were David Morgan Jr. (third), Caleb Zimmerman (fourth), Caleb Sands (second), Tyler Wssendorft (third), Darek Mills (second), Seth Hargett (third), Chance Eberly (third), Austin Francois (third), Jacob Helmuth (third), Alex Hively (fourth), Aubrey Huston (fourth), Dontae Murphy (second), Brody Froehlich (fourth), Tom Smith (third), Trey Morgan (second), Rolando Lucio (fourth), Xavier Marquart (third), Trevor Letiz (fourth) and Tristian Howard (fourth).

Niles had champions Josh Dayhuff (105A), Justin Jones (105B), Sean Craig (125A), Joe Boyer (130B) and Alex Bata (185A).

Cassopolis, which placed sixth with 26 points, finished with four individual champions.

Claiming titles for the Rangers were Isaiah Crider (110A), Andy Thammavogsa (125B), Zack Newton (137A) and Tymari Brown (145A).
