I think this is my kindergarten teacher who taught everyone in my family. I can still remember her and have lots of wonderful memories of kindergarten in 1956 at Pat Ham.

  • Deborah L. Grady

She was a wonderful and kind teacher. My prayers to her family.

What a wonderful, caring teacher. Mrs. Hunsberger was just a very nice person who taught for so many years because she “loved” her job and made a difference in a lot of the children she taught.

Mrs. Hunsberger was my kindergarten teacher so many, many years ago at Central…..that was when all grades K-12 were in one building! She was a wonderful, caring teacher who loved all “her kids”…..and she never forgot who you were. I’m sure she will get her wings :)

Lorine Hunsberger, part of the “Walking Society” with Dorothy Phillipson, was a favorite of all the Phillipsons. I have asked repeatedly about her and always thought she was in Connecticut or somewhere out East. As my baby brother’s kindergarten teacher, as the wife of DeVee who was a favorite of my father and the entire family, she simply was one wonderful person. Eve and I will miss her, and have missed her, greatly. The last time I saw her was at home in Dowagiac and she was rather down then so she probably is happier now. I wish we could have seen her but it is too late now. With love to all as Lorine would have wanted it, Herb Phillipson, Jr.

I am saddened to learn of Lorine’s passage, but am filled with the wonderful memories of our association with her and all of the Smith family members since the 1950′s. The state of Michigan is a better place for the enormous contributions of this family: Thomas and Mae, Irma, Metta, Leila and Lorine. When the mint is fragrant, the cherries are ripe and the grapes are being harvested, remember them all with the gratitude and love that all of us share. Frank Dickerson, San Mateo CA
