NILES – Visiting Covert was no match for undefeated Brandywine Monday night in a non-conference girls’ basketball game.

The Bobcats improved their school record start to 9-0 with a 52-10 victory over the Bulldogs.

It was obvious from the start that Covert wasn’t going to be much of a challenge for Brandywine, which hosts Edwardsburg Friday night in a Lakeland Conference showdown.
The Bobcats outscored Covert 18-6 and the final outcome was never in doubt from that point on.

Brandywine rolled to a 42-6 halftime advantage after shutting out the Bulldogs in the second quarter.

The lead reached 52-10 after three quarters of play and neither team scored in the final period as the two teams played with a running clock for most of the second half.

Morgan Smallwood and Kelsey Prestly both scored 12 points for the Bobcats, who also got six points from Nicole Newman, Telia Smith and Madison Pellow.

Brandywine also won the junior varsity contest with a 33-24 decision against Michigan Lutheran.
