Dowagiac fifth at Horseshoe

COMSTOCK – Andrew Roden was the lone champion for Dowagiac at the Horseshoe Classic hosted by Comstock on Wednesday.

Roden went 3-0 on the day to help Dowagiac to a fifth place finish.

Petoskey won the tournament with 65 points, while Grass Lake was second with 60 and Cedar Springs third with 56.

The Chieftains finished with 50 points.

Jacob Worthington went 2-1 on the day to finish second, while Ricky Roach made his debut and finished third with a 4-1 record.

Sinjin Ownby went 3-1 to take third.

Finishing fourth were Ryan Smit, Ben Luth and Steven Baylock, who also made his season debut.

Centreville Holiday Tournament
CENTREVILLE – It was over after just one quarter.

Battle Creek St. Philip outscored Cassopolis 20-8 in the first quarter en route to a 73-43 victory in the Centreville Holiday Tournament Wednesday night.

The Rangers did score 17 points in the second quarter, but gave up 22 points to St. Philip to take a 42-25 lead into the locker room.

The lead reached 20 points by the end of the third quarter (56-36).

Nate Hartline led the Rangers with 12 points, while Stefon Luckey added 10 points.
Luckey was named to the all-tournament team.

Oliver Fiala and Angelo Burmeister finished with eight and seven points respectively.
Chris Riley scored a game-high 25 points to pace St. Philip, which also got 12 points from Thomas Bauman and Charles Roberson.
