CASSOPOLIS – Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr, reports the following update on the death of Bryan Shelly, 17, of Marcellus.

On Sunday, Dec. 27, at approximately 1:15 a.m., the southwest bound Canadian National train spotted a person lying on or near the tracks.

Immediate braking procedures were initiated, however the train was unable to stop in time.

At this point in the investigation it does not appear that alcohol or foul play were factors in this incident, the sheriff said Monday.

The incident remains under investigation.
