Charles R. Leonard, 76, of South Bend passed away Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 in his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 21, 1933, in LaPorte, Ind., to the late Ralph and Lura (Conrick) Leonard. On June 5, 1953, he married Susan Annis, who survives.
Along with his loving wife of 56 years, he is survived by three daughters, Deb Leonard of Howell, Mich., Cathy (Don) Martin of Niles and Connie (Doug) Domine of Traverse City, Mich.; his son, Scott (Nicole) Leonard of Granger; 10 grandchildren, Cristy Cochran, Donnie Martin, Matthew Martin, Jason Domine, Brian Domine, Lauren Tucker, Jessica Domine, Noelle Martin, Charlie and Cora Leonard; four great-grandchildren, Landon, Leah and Lucas Martin and Aiden (Cochran) McNerney; and two sisters, Cora Crothers of Bremen, Ind. and Hazel Holmes of North Liberty, Ind.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon Martin; a brother, John Leonard; and by three sisters, Mary Leonard, Martha Young and Susan LeRoy.
Charles earned an accounting degree from Michiana College of Commerce and retired in 1996 as the controller/general manager for Hoffman Industries, Michigan Tube Division, Eau Claire, Mich. He was a member of Northwest United Methodist Church, South Bend, where he was the chairperson of the Northwest Children’s Learning Center Board. He was also a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Niles. Charles was a United States Army veteran.
A memorial visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009 in the Northwest United Methodist Church, 21855 Brick Rd., South Bend and from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009. Memorial services for Charles will follow at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Church.
