Thaddeus ‘Ted’ Lawrence Jarosz / Sept. 23, 1931 – Dec. 19, 2009

Thaddeus “Ted” Lawrence Jarosz, 78, of Eagle Lake, Edwardsburg passed from life Saturday afternoon, Dec. 19, 2009 while a patient at Elkhart General Hospital.

Ted was born Sept. 23, 1931 in Chicago, the son of Francis and Julia Jarosz. He graduated from Holy Trinity High School, Chicago, and went on to attend Lewis University in Lockport, Ill. At Lewis, he played four years of varsity football and basketball. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1952.

On May 17, 1952, Ted married Alice Ravnsbeck, the love of his life. Drafter shortly afterward, he served his country in the Army at the Pentagon. After his discharge, Ted taught and coached football at Holy Trinity High School in Chicago. He worked for Eaz-Life Corp. in Elkhart for 47 years.

Ted was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Edwardsburg. He recently retired as a member of the parish council after many years of service, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was instrumental in planning and building the current sanctuary and social hall.

Ted was also active in the Edwardsburg American Legion Post 365. Besides assisting with the Legion building projects, he enjoyed his work in the Legion to expend the Memorial Day parade and its festival.

Ted was preceded in death by a son, Scott Jarosz, in 1969, his parents and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; daughters, Teresa (Thomas) Bergan of Chicago, Laura Pearson of Chicago and Julia (David) Vanderkuy of Shreveport, La.; two sons, James (Jane) Jarosz of New Orleans and Jonathan Jarosz of Grand Rapids, Mich.; six loving grandchildren, Sarah (Jaime) Nava, Brandy (Robert) Walshlager, Kyle and Caitland Bergan and Hannah and Leo Vanderkuy; three devoted great-grandchildren, Jeremiah and Adrianna Nava and Alexander Pearson.

Visitation was Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the lobby of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 U.S. 12 East, Edwardsburg. The Mass of Resurrection was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009 at the church with Father Joe McCormick officiating.

The graveside service followed in Adamsville Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest near his son, Scott.

Graveside military rites followed, and were given by the Edwardsburg American Legion and the United States Army Honor Guard. Arrangements were directed by Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home in Edwardsburg. For other information call (269) 663-5345.
