A mother and her two daughters were treated and released from Memorial Hospital in South Bend as of this morning after they were hit by a vehicle in Niles Tuesday afternoon.
Capt. James Millin and the Niles City Police Department reported Wednesday morning that according to witness accounts, Barbara Mueller, 51, of Niles was said to have been traveling eastbound on East Main Street at approximately 1:43 p.m. Tuesday making an approach to Seventh Street when the incident occurred.
At that time, Alda Ornelas, 44, also of Niles was attempting to cross Seventh Street with her two daughters, ages 7 and 12.
Millin said that Mueller reportedly slowed her vehicle and tried to stop upon seeing the Ornelas and her daughters but was unable to do so and hit all three of them.
The exact extent of any injuries is unknown, but police say that Alda Ornelas did have a visible injury to her face. No visible injuries were reported in the case of the children.
The accident remains under investigation but police report alcohol is not being considered a factor.
Niles City Fire Department and SMCAS assisted in the incident.
