Joyce Ann Carlson, 75, of Edwardsburg passed to her rest about 5 p.m. Dec. 21, 2009 in the emergency room of St. Joseph Medical Center, Mishawaka, from an apparent heart attack at her home the same day.
Joyce was born Aug. 7, 1934 in Benton Harbor, the daughter of the late Chester and Allie M. (Smith) Phillips. She graduated from Dowagiac High School and on Feb. 8, 1956 married Richard A. Carlson in Berrien Center.
She was a member of Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder and deacon. She was also the treasurer of the Women’s Association.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; three children, Richard Jr. (Esther) Carlson, who is serving in the Army in Korea, Catherine (Al) Radunzel of Hudsonville, Mich., and Steven (Diana) Carlson of Chesterton, Ind.; eight loving grandchildren, Kristen Radunzel of Hudsonville, Andrew Nathan, Eric and Hunter Carlson of Chesterton, Zachary Carlson, who is in the Navy in Bahrain, Kelsey and Zane Carlson of Boise, Idaho.
She is preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Phillips, who preceded her in death in 2000.
Friends visited with the family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church, 68961 Lake St., Edwardsburg. The service will be held Thursday, Dec. 24 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Scott Scheel officiating. Burial will follow in the Edwardsburg Cemetery.
