EDWARDSBURG – A slow start doomed the Edwardsburg girls’ basketball team Monday night in a non-conference contest against visiting Lawton.

The Eddies (3-2) were outscored 22-14 in the first half and could never catch up in a 36-33 loss to the Blue Devils.

Lawton opened up a 13-7 lead after one quarter and extended its advantage to eight points at the break.

Edwardsburg made a strong comeback bid in the second half, cutting the lead to 30-24 by the end of the third quarter and had a chance to tie the game with four seconds remaining in the contest.

However, an in-bounds pass was deflected away and the Blue Devils escaped with the victory.

Sarah D’Amico scored a game-high 13 points to lead the Eddies, who also got six points from Ashley Streb and five points from Rachel Vite.

Megan Biggers and Cassandra Willis both scored eight points for Lawton.
