A trio of Dowagiac wrestlers won individual championships on Saturday at the annual Chieftain Invitational at the Dowagiac Middle School.

Andrew Roden (119), Kasey Proshwitz (145) and Sinjin Ownby (285) won individual championships for the Chieftains.

Decatur successfully defended its team title by scoring 201 points. The Raiders had three individual champions.

Hopkins was as distant runner-up with 138 points. Kalamazoo Central finished third with 135.5 points and Dowagiac fifth with 126. Lakeshore was fifth with 102 points.

Rounding out the order of finish were White Pigeon (74) and Hopkins B (60).

Winning championships for the Raiders were Mitchell Kennedy (130), J. Grandstaff (171) and Brandon Grosvenor (189). Taking second were Andy Beeching (103), Skyler Schoff (119), Jason Karasch (125), C. J. Nix (14), Zach McKellar (145), A. Cortez (171) and R. Chavez (189).

Dowagiac had one runner up and that was Ben Luth at 130-pounds.

Roden defeated Decatur’s Schoff 7-2, while Proshwitz decisioned McKellar 13-5.
Ownby edged state placer Holden Tullos of White Pigeon in the title bout 7-6.
