Winter has hit in southwest Michigan, and the City of Niles has given residents one more reason to already begin looking forward to the end of the season and the coming of spring.
The city has plans to extend the five-mile walking trail at Riverfront Park about one mile between the north and south ends this spring, according to Niles City Administrator Terry Eull.
Eull believes that the expansion, which will cost $350,000, will be a welcome addition to an already popular park.
“It’s just an addition to an already heavily used park,” Eull said. “I’m sure the people that use the park will be very pleased to have more room to walk. We hope to begin work early in spring, as soon as the weather breaks, and it will be able to be enjoyed very early in the spring.”
