St. Joe tops Buchanan in Blomgren debut

BUCHANAN – Former Dowagiac coach Greg Blomgren picked up his first win at St. Joseph Tuesday night as his Bears defeated host Buchanan 74-62 in a non-conference boys’ basketball game.

St. Joseph grabbed at 15-9 first quarter advantage and never looked back.

The Bears led 34-23 at the intermission and 51-45 heading into the decisive fourth quarter.

St. Joseph poured in 23 points compared to 17 for the Bucks (0-1).

Daniel Blackwell led Buchanan with 11 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. Ryan Catalano also had 11 points, while Savon Brown had eight points.

Marquis Tyler, Jalen Brown and Richie Reed all netted seven points for the Bucks.
St. Joseph was led by David Brennan and Sean Guinane’s 23 points. Matt Reimland added 14 points.

The Bucks return to the hardwood on Friday night as they opened up Lakeland Conference play at Coloma.
