Host Niles and Buchanan went undefeated in their respective pools on Saturday at the Niles Super Dual.

The Vikings and the Bucks both posted 5-0 records.

Niles defeated Gull Lake 36-28, Middleville Thornapple 48-20, Paw Paw 61-9, Edwardsburg B 42-24 and Bloomingdale 57-17 in Pool A.

Thornapple and Gull Lake both finished with 3-2 marks, while Edwardsburg was 2-3, Bloomingdale 2-3 and Paw Paw 0-5.

In Pool B, Buchanan defeated Sturgis 49-18, Forest Hills Northern 64-15, Berrien Springs 46-27, Benton Harbor 76-6 and Niles B 75-4.

Sturgis went 4-1 on the day with Berrien Springs finishing at 3-2. Benton Harbor was 2-3, Forest Hills Northern 1-4 and Niles B 0-5.

The Vikings had a trio of wrestlers go 5-0 on the day, while another was 3-0.

Dakota Wright finished undefeated at 112-pounds, Gage Pearison was unbeaten at 125 and Colin Burandt was unblemished at 130-pounds. All five of Wrighht’s wins were by way of a pin.

“He wrestled very well,” Niles coach Todd Hesson said. “Gage has been sick, but he’s getting better. Colin is only a junior, but he’s a state placer and he has been pretty steady in there even though he is wrestling up a weight class.”

Finishing the day at 3-0 was Cole Allison at 119-pounds.

“Cole and Casey Burandt have been alternating at 119,” Hesson pointed out. “Both of them did a good job.”

Going 4-1 on the day for the Vikings were Rashad Harris, Robbie Legus, Mike Gentry and Donte Stevens.

Hesson also said that freshmen Ryan Casey and Alex Landon also wrestled well on Saturday.
“We wrestled pretty well,” he said. “To be honest, I would have been happy with 3-2. We have a lot of you kids and we are going to take our lumps down the road, but I thought we wrestled well.”

The Bucks had six grapplers finish the day at 5-0.

They were Taylor Glavin (103), Andy Ketchum (125), T.J. Miller (145), Gage Hutchison (160), Jacob Ferris (189) and Mack Green (215).

Posting 4-1 records for the Bucks were Alex Darmos (135), Jeff Mucha (140), Adam Byrdak (152) and Dusten Craig (285).
