BERRIEN SPRINGS – Turnovers and poor shooting doomed the Cassopolis girls’ basketball team Friday night in its Lakeland Conference opener against host Berrien Springs.

The Rangers turned the ball over 24 times and hit just seven field goals in a 39-24 seatback at the hands of the Shamrocks.

Despite the Cass miscues, the contest was tight for the first 16 minutes.

Berrien Springs (1-0, 1-0 Lakeland) grabbed an 8-6 lead after one quarter and increased its advantage to 13-10 at halftime.

It was all Shamrocks in the second half.

Using a 12-0 run to open the third quarter, Berrien Springs led 28-15 heading to the final period and didn’t let up, outscoring Cass 11-9 in the final eight minutes.

Amanda Bromilow did most of the scoring damage for the Shamrocks, netting a game-high 16 points.

Koby Gillespie and Gabby Baur chipped in with eight and six points respectively.
The Rangers were led by Damonica Kelly’s 10 points. Lela Broussard added seven points.
