COLOMA – Another night and another victory for the Brandywine girls’ basketball team.

The Lady Bobcats, playing their third game in four days, got off to another quick start Friday night against host Coloma and rolled to a 48-24 victory over the Comets.
Brandywine (3-0, 1-0 Lakeland) blew open the contest in the opening eight minutes by scoring 21 points and holding Coloma to just two.

Brandywine struggled a bit in the second quarter and was actually outscored by Coloma 8-4.

Still, the Lady Bobcats held a 25-10 halftime advantage and never looked back.

“The key for us is to get off to a fast start,” Brandywine coach Josh Hood said. “It’s always big to win that first conference game and Coloma is a tough place to play. I was not real happy with our second quarter performance, but we picked it up in the second half and got the job done.”

Carlie Newman led the Lady Bobcats with 12 points, while Kelsey Prestly and Teila Smith both had seven points.

Smallwood also had seven rebounds and six assists to go along with six points, while Lauren Leonard finished with four points, six steals and eight rebounds.

Mackenzie Shelton also had six points.

Brandywine is back in action on Tuesday night as it plays host to former Lakeland Conference opponent River Valley.
