Jack Edwin Deming, 80, of Lawndale Avenue, Niles, died at 11:18 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at his home following an extended illness.

He was born Feb. 26, 1929 in Cassopolis to Edwin Earl Deming and Mabel (Pollard) Deming. He was a lifelong resident of Niles.

Jack was a former employee of South Bend Tool & Die. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling and designing and building doll furniture. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Dowagiac; a graduate of Dowagiac Union High School Class of 1947; life member of F. & A.M. Lodge 10 in Dowagiac and its DeMolay Chapter, where he earned High Priesthood; and was financial secretary of IA of M, Local Union 1384, Indiana.

He was married June 18, 1949 in Wakelee, Mich. to Martha J. (Knapp) Deming, who survives. He is also survived by his sons, Gregory A. Deming, of Niles, Douglas E. (Christine) Deming, of Granger; daughters, Deborah R. (Donald) Asmus, of Perry, Fla., Laurie J. (James) Pokladowski, of DePere, Wis., Connie L. (Larry) Murphy, of Kalipell, Mont.; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, Dowagiac, with the Rev. Richard R. Swanson of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church officiating.

Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Dowagiac. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements were made by Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Home or Berrien County Cancer Service.
