KALAMAZOO – Senior quarterback Tim Hiller has been named Second Team Academic All-America by ESPN The Magazine.

He becomes the eighth Bronco, ninth selection overall, to earn the prestigious honor and the third in as many seasons.  Hiller joins Florida’s Tim Tebow as the only two quarterbacks to earn Academic All-America in the Division I FBS.

Hiller, the first quarterback to earn Academic All-America for WMU, carries a 4.0 GPA and is in his second year of the MBA program at Western Michigan University, having earned his undergraduate degree in August of 2008.

This is the first time the Orrville, Ohio, native has earned Academic All-America and is the second year he earned First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV.

He joins current teammate Phillip Swanson  and former teammate Anthony Gebhart as the latest Broncos to receive the award with Gebhart earning first team in 2007 and Swanson earning second team in 2008.

Prior to 2007, a Western Michigan football student-athlete had not earned Academic All-America since Mike Hutchings in 1998.

Hiller, one of only two student-athletes from the Mid-American Conference to earn this honor in 2009, is the finalist for the 2009 William V. Campbell Award, Danny Wuerffel Award and the ARA Sportsmanship Award and has already been named a National Scholar-Athlete by the National Football Foundation.
