James F. Nipes, 90, of Edwardsburg, passed to his rest on Sunday morning Nov. 21, 2009 at his home after an illness.

He was born Nov. 28, 1918 in Ira, Vt., the son of the late William James Knipes and Jewell Hawkins. James was the former owner of Consolidates Auto Sales in the Niles area for several years, where he sold used autos and did repair and body work on autos.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Schenectady, N.Y., and enjoyed the association with the local Elk Lodges. He liked to attend and be part of Notre Dame football, and being there in attendance at games.

Surviving is his loving wife of 34 years, Bernice B. Pastuszak-Keech, and Bernice’s children: a daughter, Nancy (Dr. John) Helfrick, of Sugar Land Texas, and two sons, Tim Keech, of Elkhart, and Mike (Elizabeth) Keech, of Naples, Fla. There are four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all from Bernice’s family.

James had two children, who are deceased: a daughter, Bonnie Jewell Vonstenia, and a son, William James Nipes.

There will be a graveside service Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 for the members of the family and close friends. The family appreciates the love and understanding from all the neighbors and family friends.
