SMC to hold 43rd annual Turkey Trot Nov. 23

Southwestern Michigan College is hosting the 43rd annual Turkey Trot Nov. 23 on the Roadrunner trails located on the college’s Dowagiac campus.

High school cross-country teams are invited to participate at no cost. Members of the community are welcome to join for a small race fee of $2 per person.

The open race will be an 8k (5-mile) run, a 5k run or walk and a Mile-Fun Run. The Fun Run is free to participants.

Long sleeve T-shirts will be available for $15. To reserve a long sleeve shirt, send a check along with the size of shirt (payable to SMC) to Ron Gunn, SMC, 58900 Cherry Grove Rd., Dowagiac, MI 49047. Add an extra $2 for XX-large size shirts.

SMC students and staff can participate free in the 3k walk or run and a 5k run.

Custom ribbons will be awarded to the top five finishers in 34 divisions in the Student Activity Center gymnasium located in the Charles O. Zollar Building.

Drawing prizes for a turkey and SMC shirts will also be awarded. Refreshments will be provided after the race for participants.

Founded by the Roadrunner Track Club of SMC in 1967, the race holds the Michigan record for most years continuous with the same race director, Ron Gunn.

Register online at www.sw-mich.edu/trot or by stopping by the Student Activity Center. Race day registration is from 3-3:45 p.m. in the gymnasium.
