June Kemeny

June Kemeny, 92, formerly of West River Road, Niles, died at 12:40 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 at Riveridge Manor in Niles following an extended illness.

She was born Sept. 15, 1917 in Detroit to Samuel H. Warriner and Lulu Benson. She lived in Niles since 1946, coming from Detroit. June married Donald E. Kemeny on July 20, 1946 in Detroit. He died May 20, 2007.

She was a retired nursery preschool teacher and former board member of the Niles-Buchanan Senior Citizens Center. In 1960, she started the First Presbyterian Nursery School. Her greatest passion was art, and she was talented at oil painting. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Niles; logged more than 3,000 hours beginning in 1961 with the Pawating Lakeland Hospital Auxiliary; and was a lifetime member of the auxiliary. She was also a member of Fernwood Botanic Garden and the Niles Garden Club. June was a former board member of the Niles-Buchanan Senior Citizens Center.
June is survived by a daughter, Patricia Kemeny (Richard) Macias, of Chico, Calif.; a sister, Betty Ann Shotwell, of Chatham, Va.; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

Private family services will be held.

Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Halbritter Funeral Home.
