Two separate incidents of graffiti at Dowagiac Middle School Monday indicated a bomb would be in the grades 6-8 building today.

After “extensive interviewing of students,” however, Principal Michael Frazier reported in a letter sent to parents, “it was determined that two students were responsible for the graffiti.”

“The bomb threat was a hoax and their motivation was purely to see if they could get a free day off of school,” Frazier wrote.

“Severe” disciplinary measures were assigned to the two students.

Dowagiac Police Department was given a report.

“At this time,” Frazier concluded, “we feel that our students are in no immediate or future danger stemming from this incident.”

School is proceeding today at its regular time. The principal asked parents to discuss with their children “the legal ramifications for them if they chose to do something so unlawful.”
