Hilda R. Black, 80, of Hudson, Fla. and formerly of Niles, died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009 at Bayounte Point Hospital in Hudson, Fla. following an extended illness.

She was born June 26, 1929 in South Bend to Fred and Mary Unger. She moved from Niles to Florida five years ago. She married Joseph Henry Black Sr. on Sept. 5, 1946 in Jeffersonville, Ind. Joseph died Nov. 15, 1976.

She was retired after 25 years of service from Simplicity Pattern Co. in Niles. She enjoyed playing bingo, game shows, puzzle books and baseball.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; son, Joseph Henry Black Jr., who died June 13, 1976; three sisters; and three brothers.

She is survived by daughters, Barbara (John) Liska, of Tuscon, Ariz., Phyllis (Doug) Lenz, of Vandalia, Ohio, Marie (Robert) Vagil, of Hudson, Fla., Nancy (Rocky) Lane, of Hawesville, Kent.; brothers, Lyle Unger Sr., of Niles, Alfred (Sue) Unger, of Buchanan, Frank Unger, of Buchanan, Robert (Shirley) Unger, of Dowagiac, William (Lisa) Unger, of Crawfordsville, Fla.; sisters, Yvonne (Sam) Garvin, of Niles, Delores (Harry) Kujawa, of Niles, and Emma (Terry) Cleland, of Alamogordo, N.M.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles with the Rev. William T. Melody, of Notre Dame, officiating.

Burial will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles. There will be no visitation.
