Police warn residents about garage break-insPublished 8:55am Wednesday, October 28, 2009
Several pole barn garages in the Barron Lake area of Howard Township were broken into overnight Monday and into the early morning hoursWednesday.
Over the last several months numerous barns and outbuildings have been targeted on or near Thompson, White, Hand, Huntly, Lake, Prospect Point, Leet and Almaugus streets.
Police are asking residents to secure and check their structures often. It would be a good idea to write down and store in a safe place the model and serial numbers of expensive electronics, yard implements, tools and firearms. Lock any vehicles left outside and try to park them under good lighting conditions.
Police also urge area residents to immediately report suspicious activity involving vehicles and pedestrians operating at odd hours to the Niles State Police (269) 683-4411.
Exterior lighting usage and simple neighborly interaction will assist law enforcement efforts in solving and preventing these crimes. Anyone witnessing crimes in progress should call 911.
