Katie Johnson started Monday as the new managing editor of the Niles Daily Star.

Johnson, a native of Rosholt, S.D., was previously the news editor of the Austin (Minn.) Daily Herald. Both that newspaper and the Star are owned by Boone Newspapers of Tuscaloosa, Ala.

“Niles is a great community that deserves top-notch journalism talent,” general manager Bryan Clapper said. “Katie worked for me before, so I’ve seen her creative thinking and devotion to newsgathering firsthand. I know she’ll bring a lot of positive change to the Star.”

Johnson has also worked as a reporter in Minnesota and North Dakota, and graduated with a degree in journalism from Minnesota State University Moorhead.

She and her fiance, Derrick, will make their home in the area.
