EDWARDSBURG – A goal in each half and another shut out lifted the host Edwardsburg varsity soccer team to a 2-0 win in the Lakeland Conference championship match on Wednesday.

The win gave the Eddies the outright league title. Edwardsburg went 6-0 in conference play and did not allow a single goal.

In the tournament, the Eddies gave up a single goal on Monday afternoon in a 4-1 semifinal victory over Berrien Springs.

Edwardsburg struck quickly against the Bees in a rematch of last year’s championship match.

Daniel Holston scored an unassisted goal in the second minute as a breakdown on defense by Bridgman allowed Holston to beat Bees’ keeper Jeff Jakeway.

The score would remain 1-0 throughout the rest of the first half despite the fact that most of it was played on Bridgman’s end of the field.

The Bees never got any quality scoring chances in the opening 40 minutes.

It didn’t take long for the Eddies to extend their lead in the second half.

Zak Karamalegos scored four minutes into the period to make it 2-0.

Daniel Lauten had the assist on the goal.

Again, Bridgman never seriously threatened Edwardsburg from an offensive standpoint.

The Eddies held a 16-8 advantage in shots on goal in the match with Ryan Housing getting credit for three saves.

Jakeway helped keep the match close by stopping six shots for the Bees.

In other Lakeland Conference matches on Wednesday, Buchanan was defeated by Berrien Springs 3-2 and Coloma defeated Cassopolis 5-0.

Brandywine took on Lake Michigan Catholic on Wednesday as the Lakers helped fill out the conference bracket.

The Lakers, who are an honorable mention pick in the latest soccer rankings, edged the Bobcats 3-2.

No results were provided from any of those three matches.
