Chieftain volleyball team swept by host Berrien Springs

BERRIEN SPRINGS – Visiting Dowagiac could not muster enough emotion Monday night and wound up dropping a 3-0 non-conference decision to Berrien Springs.

The Lady Shamrocks defeated the Chieftains 25-18, 25-23 and 25-18.

“We are struggling to play volleyball with any emotion,” Dowagiac coach Ryan Frontczak said. “Our mistakes keep piling up and we need to start communicating. We are going to have to work together as a team to finish out the season strong. We are going to have to keep getting better everyday, because we are running out of time!”

Alyssa Greenwood led the Chieftains with nine kills, while Kaisha Martin and Andrea Bradshaw finished with three and two blocks respectively.

Meghan Hojara had 12 assists and Danielle Taylor eight assists.

JV volleyball
The Chieftain junior varsity volleyball team also was swept by host Berrien Springs.
The Lady Shamrocks defeated Dowagiac 25-17 and 25-18.

Carly Polomcak, Shelby Bruens and Alyssa Fritz each had nine service points.

Rylie Cox finished with seven and Whitney Donaldson added six.

Polomcak led the team with six kills and Donaldson three blocks. Nikki Witwer had six assists.

Freshmen volleyball
Dowagiac dropped a pair of Wolverine Conference matches recently.

Plainwell defeated the Chieftains 25-22 and 25-18, while Gull Lake won 25-18 and 25-22.

Casey Weldy, Hollie Olson, Hunter Goins, Kristyn Turner and Rachel Bailey were the top servers against Plainwell.

Against Gull Lake, turner, Brittany Smith, Olson, Rachel McLaughlin and Goins were the top servers. Brittany Williams was singled out for her blocking, while Gabby Madison and Bailey were credited for their hitting.

On Saturday at the Vicksburg Tournament, Dowagiac did not make it out of pool play after losing to Plainwell, Paw Paw and Comstock.
