Downed tree cause of accident

CASSOPOLIS – Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports that on Monday, Sept. 28, at 6:17 a.m., his office handled a single vehicle personal injury crash, on Bulhand Road in Calvin Township, Cass County.

Amy Cope, 26, of Cassopolis and her passenger, Joshua Wieser, 29, also of Cassopolis, were traveling southbound on Bulhand Road when they crashed into a downed tree across the road after cresting a hill.

Cope was transported to Lakeland Hospital in Niles and her passenger was uninjured.
Seatbelts were used and alcohol is not believed to be a factor

Assisting at the scene were Life Care Ambulance and Penn Township Fire Department.
Sheriff Underwood Jr. also reports on Monday, at 8:51 a.m., his office handled a single vehicle personal injury crash, on Church Street in Volinia Township.

Christian Hutson, 18, of Decatur was traveling eastbound on Church Street when a deer ran onto the road in front of him. Attempting to avoid the deer he lost control and went off the road into a tree. He was then transported by family to Borgess Hospital in Dowagiac.

His seatbelt was used and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
