Harold Oscar Reid, 92, of Barron Lake Road, Niles, died at 9:10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at Lakeland Specialty Hospital, Berrien Center.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, with the Rev. David DeVoll, officiating.

Burial will be at Coulter’s Chapel Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the funeral home.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1916, in Kalamazoo, to Oscar and Myrtie Reid and has lived in this area since 1937, coming from Leonidas.

He was a United States World War II veteran, and a member of Coulter’s Chapel Church.
He enjoyed gardening and mowing and he loved his family, his grandchildren and his church.

He was retired from Kawneer, where he worked in the shipping department.

On April 24, 1935, in Centreville, he married Mildred Johnson Reid, who died Sept. 24, 2004.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Allen Reid; a brother, Foster Reid and three sisters, Alice Davis, Florence Hoover and Ethel Reid.

Surviving family includes, two sons, Harold (Ruby) Reid of Niles and Carl (Ruth) Reid of St. Louis, Mo.; two daughters, Wilma Dunivan of Troy, Ohio and Carolyn (Steve) Burger of Niles; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; a sister, Edith Schneck of Niles and a special friend and caregiver, Maxine Smith of Buchanan.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or the Alzheimers Association.
