DMS edged by Ring Lardner

The Dowagiac middle school eighth grade football team was edged by Niles Ring Lardner 8-7 on Tuesday night.

The Chieftains did not score on offense, however, a pass interception by Nate Lindsey was returned for a touchdown late in the first quarter.

Lindsey finished the game with a pair of interceptions.

Other defensive standouts for the Chieftains were Derik Mills, Shane Bevins, Carl Grant and Ray Vega.

Top offensive players were Linsdey, Jessie Mast, Davion Highsmith and Aaron Adams.

Seventh grade volleyball
The Dowagiac Middle School seventh grade volleyball Black team lost to South Haven 25-11, 25-17 and 25-23 on Monday.

The Chieftains showed improvement throughout the night, but struggled defensively.
Jessica Ausra, Abigail Brizendine and Rosadio Murray led the way at the service line.
The Orange team also lost 25-13, 25-22 and 25-12.

Tori Smith, Kelsey Barnes and Mary Magin were the top servers.

“Defensively we struggled against a tough serving South Haven team,” Dowagiac coach Kim Yauchstetter said.

Dowagiac’s next match will be on Wednesday against visiting Three Rivers.

Eighth grade volleyball
The eighth grade Orange squad won its match against South Haven 25-21, 25-15 and 25-12.

Good serving by the entire team was credited for the win and the leadership on and off the court by Shelby Mast.

The Black squad lost a very hard fought match 25-27, 25-11 and 26-27.

Again, serving carried the night for the girls with Sarah Long and Madison Proshwitz combining for 17 points.
