BUCHANAN – Defending Lakeland Conference champion Coloma needed five sets to defeat host Buchanan Wednesday night.

The Lady Comets defeated the Lady Bucks 19-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-23 and 15-10.

“I am extremely proud of my team tonight,” Buchanan coach Lisa Holok said. “The past few days I have felt that we were right on the brink of being the team we were meant to be and tonight in this game it finally broke through… we competed, we fought, we played as one united team… and it was fun to watch.

“We left everything on the floor tonight and as a coach you can’t ask for anything more. Now we have a taste of where we can really go this season and that is a powerful tool. This may be a loss in the record books but it’s a win for our ‘team.’”

Audrey Oake led the Lady Bucks with 17 kills and two blocks, while Kirsten Smallwood finished with 11 kills and one block. Buchanan also got 50 assists, four digs, three aces, three blocks and three kills.

Rachel Briggs added 12 kills, three blocks and two aces, while Rachel Downs had 35 digs and Brooke Shultz had 35 digs and two aces. Kelsie Patrick and Desiree Scoggin combined for nine kills and three blocks.
