Fiery Mason Twp. crash investigated

CASSOPOLIS – Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his office is investigating a personal-injury crash.

On Thursday, Sept. 17, at 8:27 p.m., deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office were called to the intersection of Five Points Road and Grange Street in Mason Township.

Deputies arrived to find the vehicle involved in the crash consumed by fire. The driver of the vehicle was pulled from the wreckage by a homeowner in the area who witnessed the crash.
The vehicle, driven by Erica Briggs, a 40-year-old female from Cassopolis, was northbound on Five Points.

Briggs failed to stop at the “T” intersection and impacted a group of trees on the north side of Grange Street.

Assisting at the scene of the crash were Porter Township Fire and Ambulance and Oslo Ambulance.

The driver of the vehicle was transported by ambulance to U.S. 12 and Five Points where she was transferred over to Med-Flight staff and airlifted to Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
